A tool that I’ve found is really handy is a called the Cash Clock. It’s a simple program that measures both the time that you’re working on a piece as well as how much money you should be earning. You can adjust the hourly wage to whatever you feel is right. Simply start the clock whenever you begin working on a project right up until you’re finished. It can give you a clear indication of what you should charge for commissions.

No artist should make below minimum wage for their artwork.

The Cash Clock is found as a download here

PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD USE THIS INSTEAD OF CHARGING PEANUTS FOR YOUR BEAUTIFUL ARTWORK

Please, please, please at least make sure you’re making minimum wage.

Please stop lowering the pay floor for independent artists everywhere by thinking $5-10/commission is anywhere close to an acceptable rate for something you spent three hours on.

apparently ppl don’t know about waifu2x??? despite its… concerning name it’s literally the most convenient website i’ve ever come across as an artist

it allows you to resize artwork without it becoming pixellated. this is a MASSIVE help if you, for example, make lineart too small or something. it works best with things that 1. have no textures 2. have smooth lines 3. have cel shading, but it still works really damn well for things that don’t fit that profile

here’s an example:

normal size

2x in paint

2x in waifu2x

so like, there’s that. go wild

It’s legit!! Tell your friends!

waifu2x-multi is the newer version. It allows for rescaling multiple pictures at a time and to scale them up to 10x the original size.

Reblog for later

I discovered something useful today, taking breaks or exercising never helps me but THIS does, sharing to save a life

I just found out that some pro artists that work for companies like Dreamworks etc sometimes hold their pens this or similar way so it gotta work. Recently I spent 5 days on drawing for long periods of time (we talk about min 5 hours in one go to max 12 hours long crunch) and not once did my hand bother me.

For any artist friendos ???

FREE ART PROGRAMS

So recently I came across a fellow artist who was struggling to find a free art program, and considering dropping the large amount of money for a Photoshop license. I know not everyone can afford such an expensive program, so I’ve compiled a list of programs with no cost to download and use.

Keep in mind all computers are different, so not all will work for everyone. Also, I’ve only ever used Windows, so for the most part, I’m not sure if everything will work for Mac. if in doubt check the website linked.

Photoshop CS2 – (Windows, not sure about Mac.)

FireAlpaca – (Windows and Mac)

Sketchbook Copic Edition – (Windows and Mac)

GIMP – (Windows) (Mac)

Paint tool SAI [cracked]  – (Windows) (Mac)

Paint tool SAI 2 beta – (tumblr post on said program)

iPaint – (Mac)

Paintbrush – (Mac)

Pencil – (Windows, Mac)

Paint.NET – (Windows)

Seashore [still in development, ver 0.5] – (Mac)

ChocoFlop – (Mac)

Inkscape – (Mac and Windows)

ArtRage [Demo] – (Mac and Windows)

OpenCanvas 1.1[must pay for 2.0] – (Windows, not sure about Mac.)

MyPaint – (Windows)

Krita – (Windows)

Vectorian [Supports Animation] – (Windows)

Pixia[Japanese, some English versions] – (Windows)

Asperite – (Windows)

Chasys Draw IES – (Windows)

SmoothDraw – (Windows)

TwistedBrush Open Studio – (Windows)

BOUNS – CTRL+Paint [Great for teaching all kinds of stuff, like how to use digital programs.]

If you know more free programs, please add onto this!

OpenToonz has made many improvements since it’s initial release! (Windows & Mac)

Medibang Paint is a comic drawing software forked from FireAlpaca mentioned earlier in this post, and is available for mobile devices as well! (Windows, Mac, iOS, Android)

Sharing is Caring 🙂

Autodesk sketchbook is free too ^^

Tho you have to buy the full version, but the free one is good for quick sketches

autodesk sketchbook’s pro version is now completely free!

Adhkl I’ve had this done for so long I forgot to post!
Anyways this is based off of @wastelandghoul awesome cosplay!

[image discription: Finished digital drawing of @wastelandghoul cosplay of lup. In the drawing lup is squating. The hair is blond and slightly wavy. Lup is wearing a red robe, a white shirt fishnet tights, and black combat boots. Lup is also wearing a bracelet, ring, earrings and red glasses. The background is a blue static texture.]

Hair tip #2 – Think of the hair as a ribbon (light shines across it) and paint locks instead of strands so your hair won’t look too stringy.

1. I start out with a base color for the hair and use it as a midtone.

2 & 3. I use a big, wide brush to block in areas of shadows and highlights. I group the hair together to simplify it.

4. I go back in with the same brush (you can use any brush) at a smaller size to refine shapes and add details and texture.

Just a quick thing I put together. This blew my fucking MIND when my anatomy teacher pointed it out. My drawings instantly got better. You might know it (good for you, I wish I knew it before too T_T) or you might not and it might help you get better.

I did NOT know this! :OOOOO Thank you!

NOTE: one type of fold will rarely appear on its own – they interact with each other quite a bit! for example, spiral folds might define the outline of a pant leg, while the interior folds might be zig-zag folds.

i’m trying to re-learn how to draw clothing, so i made this little guide to the most common shapes of folds that appear. hope it helps someone else too!
